Classic Icons for Dimensions
Since the release of Dimensions 2.44a there has been a great response to the new features and functionality that were included in the release. One of the design changes was to update the look and feel to be in line with Vista. If you would prefer to have a more classic look to Dimensions then we have prepared an alternative version of the icon file which will give Dimensions the classic look and feel, rather than the new Vista look and feel.

Download the icons and copy them into the Access Accounts install directory. The file should be renamed to 'access.pic' and it replaces the currently installed access.pic file. Doing this will convert the icons in Dimensions back to the classic style which was available in versions 2.43c and prior.

Changes to Personal Allowance 2008
The Chancellor announced that the basic Personal Allowance for the 2008-09 tax years will increase to £6,035 a rise of £600, and the basic tax rate band will reduce from £36,000 to £34,800. The allowances will be backdated to the start of the tax year (6 April 2008).

If employees qualify i.e. are elligible for the Basic Personal Allowance, these changes take effect from the first payday after 7th September 2008. The allowances will be backdated to the start of the tax year (6 April 2008).

This change does not affect employees over 65 yrs who qualify for the higher age-related Personal Allowance.

Employees that pay tax at the basic rate of 20% - On the first payday after 7th September the changes take effect, the PAYE burden for that month can be reduced by up to £60 per employee. Employees who are monthly paid and the pay date is on or before 7th September will see the reduction in the October's pay.

Employees that pay tax at the higher rate of 40% - The changes of Personal Allowance only effects basic rate tax payers.

HMRC will update Employers with PAYE Code information

  • All tax codes that end in L will increase by 60. From 543L to 603L
  • Other codes may change, but this will depend on your particular circumstances

National Insurance Contributions

  • National Insurance rates and thresholds remain the same

Effect on attachement/arrestment earnings orders - Because of the changes to the Personal Allowance most people will pay less PAYE, as a result of this the employee will have more earnings for the Attachment to be based on. In turn this may result in an increase in the value of the Attachments.

Employees paying for child support or maintenance, if they already pay the full amount due each payday the change won't affect the attachment/arrestment deductions.

Bulk Updates of Tax Codes
Tax codes are being changed; this change becomes effective for the first pay date after 7th September 2008.

Before you run the payroll for pay dates that fall after 7th September 2008 you do have the option to apply a bulk update to tax code changes notified to you by HMRC. To do this:

  • Take a backup of your data
  • In the Payroll File> choose the Utilities Menu which will appear now on the top Menu bar. From here choose Clear Employee Bulk Update Flags
  • Then go into System Control>Tables>Bulk Update. You will have the ability to add a value to the L code employees (eg: 60)

If you have any issues while installing the service pack then please e-mail Application Systems Management on asm@atlasbiz.com who will be happy to help with this procedure.
